How to Plan Your Perfect Utah Elopement
I am so glad you are here!
Eloping in Utah isn’t just about escaping tradition, it’s about choosing adventure, connection, and authenticity. You’re deciding to prioritize what truly matters to you both: a day that’s about your love, in one of the most jaw-droppingly beautiful places on earth. Utah’s diverse landscapes, from the towering red rock formations to the tranquil deserts and rugged mountains, offer the perfect canvas for the adventure of a lifetime.
What You’ll Find Inside:
This guide is your go-to resource for turning your dream elopement into a reality, stress-free, unforgettable, and full of adventure.
Utah is the most perfect place for elopements because of how diverse your landscapes can be just hours from each other. Northern Utah offers gorgeous sharp mountains, lakes and pine trees while Southern Utah offers incredible desert-scapes that feel other worldly! No matter of the level of adventure you are wanting to create together, we can craft something that speaks to you and capture your perfect adventure.
Deciding the perfect location
When you think of Utah, you’ll probably imagine the iconic Arches National Park. Arches is the perfect place for elopement for all levels and is just 10 minutes outside of Moab. There are many iconic spots to pull up to on the side of the road, or a couple that are just a short walk to towering views like The Windows, or Double Arches. There are more arches that are so worth seeing up close if you are willing to hike! All of the hikes I have done are very do-able for all levels from kiddos to active elders. These are just a couple ideas of places to have your ceremony or activities throughout your elopement day-I could go on and on about how incredible Arches actually is and how long you can spend in there! I would highly recommend a full day adventure to see all that the park has to offer.
Another location I love for elopements is Dead Horse Point State Park. Dead horse is a great one because it’s easily accessible and does not require any hiking to see the gorgeous view it has to offer. Dead Horse Point is also less crowded than the National Parks, but does tend to get busy around Holidays and Weekends. To avoid crowds, weekdays are perfect-or mornings tend to have a lot less visitors as well. Dead Horse Point is about a 45-50 minute drive from Moab, and is gorgeous the whole way!
If you are staying down in the St. George area, the big National Park down there is Zion National Park. I grew up in St. George and visited Zion on the weekends so this area holds a special place in my heart. Zion is an hour outside of St. George, but there are many closer places to stay such as the town of Springdale that is right outside Zion. Many people own Air BnBs in this area and there are lots of unique stays as well to make your elopement adventure that much more special! Zion is a huge hot spot for adventure junkies like myself. The hikes can be intense and require hiking permits but are so worth it. Angels Landing is a popular one that requires a permit but is so stunning if you ever get to do that one. One that is quite a bit easier is the Zion Canyon Overlook Trail. This is about 1.5, a little bit steep with cliff drops on the side. It is absolutely stunning. Zion National Park is a popular destination, and with that comes its shuttle system—a great way to reduce traffic but sometimes tricky to navigate for first-time visitors. Don’t worry though! I’m very familiar with the ins and outs of Zion’s shuttle system, and I’m here to guide you every step of the way. You can relax knowing that I’ll handle the logistics, ensuring you spend more time soaking in the beauty of the park and less time stressing over schedules. Together, we’ll make sure your elopement day flows seamlessly from one breathtaking location to the next!
Navigating Permits and Regulations
Once you’ve chosen the perfect location, I’ll guide you through all the details to make sure everything runs smoothly. Each park has its own set of rules and regulations—don’t worry, though! I’ll take care of the logistics for you, from helping to secure permits to navigating timed entries and park fees. Plus, I’ll help you find the best ceremony spots to make your day unforgettable. You can focus on the adventure ahead, and I’ll handle those scary details.

While your elopement day is all about the adventure and moments shared with your partner, rest assured that every beautiful detail and memory will be captured along the way. From the quiet, intimate moments to the thrilling hikes and breathtaking landscapes, I’ll be there to photograph it all, ensuring you have stunning photos that reflect the true spirit of your day. We’ll make stops at the most scenic spots for photos that capture both the adventure and the love you share, leaving you with a collection of memories that you’ll cherish forever.
Finding Your Team
One of the best parts about eloping is that you get to keep things intimate and focused on what truly matters to you. That said, having the right people to help you make your day unforgettable is key. Finding your dream team isn’t about hiring a big wedding crew—it’s about choosing the right people who will support and elevate your vision.
- Photographer (Your Storyteller): Of course, you’ll need a photographer to capture all the adventure and intimate moments throughout the day. As an elopement photographer, I’ll be there to guide you, capture the memories, and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera. Your photos will be a reflection of your love and the beauty of Utah’s landscapes. I’ll also help coordinate the day so you can focus on your experience, not logistics.
- Officiant: Choosing the right officiant can make your ceremony even more meaningful. Whether you have a close friend who will officiate or you hire a professional, make sure they understand your values and the type of ceremony you want. A great officiant will personalize your vows, helping make the moment feel truly authentic. If you choose, I am also a licensed officiant and am more than happy to officiate your wedding at no additional cost!
- Hair and Makeup Artist: Even though you’re keeping things laid-back, you’ll likely want to feel your best on the big day. A hair and makeup artist can help you get ready and make sure you look amazing, without spending too much time getting glammed up. Many artists specialize in natural, outdoor-friendly looks, which is perfect for an elopement in Utah’s rugged landscapes.
- Vendors (If Desired): If you’re planning to have a more elaborate picnic, a cake, or a small celebration afterward, consider finding local vendors who align with your style. From florists who specialize in wild, desert-inspired bouquets to a local chef for an intimate meal, the options are endless. I will help recommend vendors I’ve worked with in the past who truly understand elopement celebrations.
The Right People for Your Day
At the end of the day, your team is here to make sure your elopement goes smoothly and is exactly what you imagined. Don’t feel pressured to have a large team—elopements are all about quality over quantity. Focus on bringing in the people who will enhance your experience and help you stay present in the moment, whether that’s a photographer, an officiant, or a few special touches along the way.
Elopements are all about authenticity, adventure, and the beautiful moments you share with your partner in nature. As your photographer, my goal is to tell the story of your day through images that reflect your love, the stunning landscape, and the emotions you experience along the way. Whether it’s a quiet exchange of vows in a secluded canyon or an adventurous hike to your ceremony spot, I’ll be there to capture every intimate glance, laugh, and breathtaking view.
The key to truly beautiful photos is staying present in the experience. Forget about posing or trying to “perform”—just be yourselves, and I’ll handle the rest. Focus on each other, enjoy the journey, and let the moments unfold naturally. The more relaxed and in the moment you are, the more genuine and meaningful your photos will be.
I know it’s easier said than done! I’m not exactly comfortable in front of the camera myself, which is exactly why I became a photographer. I’ll help guide you, keep things light, and get you comfortable so you can truly be yourselves. After all, the best memories are the ones that happen without you even having to think about it—they’re the moments that come from just being fully present in the magic of the day.
Final touches: Making Your Elopement Your Own
One of the coolest parts of eloping is the opportunity to make the day entirely your own. From writing personal vows that reflect your unique journey together to incorporating meaningful rituals like a handfasting, exchanging symbolic gifts, or even a custom ceremony, the options are endless for creating a deeply personal experience. Don’t be afraid to get creative—whether it’s an adventurous activity you both love or a quiet moment of reflection, this day is about celebrating your love in a way that feels true to you.
Most importantly, embrace the adventure and enjoy every moment of the day. Eloping is about connection—not just with each other, but with the wild beauty around you. Soak in the quiet moments, laugh together, and let the magic unfold as it will. This is your story, your day, and the adventure of a lifetime—make it as unique and meaningful as your love.
Your Utah elopement isn’t just a wedding—it’s the adventure of a lifetime. It’s about celebrating your love in the wildest, most breathtaking places, making memories that will last forever. Whether you’re hiking to your ceremony spot, exchanging vows beneath the red rocks, or simply soaking in the beauty around you, this day is all about what you want.
